Fifth Grade Fridays
What we did this week and what's upcoming?
American Education Week: November 18-22
Please come to see your child in action during the American Education Week Visitation. Fifth grade is scheduled for Wednesday morning, 9-11:00. If you find you cannot attend on Wednesday, feel free to stop in any day next week during the visiting hours.
While you are here, stop by the table in the lobby for a last opportunity to order extraordinary pastas from the Fifth Grade Fundraiser.
Holiday Music Program
The Holiday Music Extravaganza will be Tuesday evening, December 10th at 6:30 p.m. Our orchestra will perform instrumentals on strings, and the band will offer holiday favorites. The Fifth Grade Chorus will perform songs from around the world. We will also be entertained by the fourth grade Recorder Chorus. Plan to join us for an evening of musical delights.
Math in LC 3
We are midway through our unit on Data. So far, we have covered statistical measures [Have your child sing the song, These Are All Statistics.], line plots, line graphs and double line graphs, and bar graphs and double bar graphs. We will work on Stem and Leaf Plots next, followed by Circle Graphs. After that, we will move to Probability. There will be more information about lessons and content on the blog and calendar page of my website.
Blue Math
Students in the Blue Math Group have worked on Graphing and Data Analysis. They are now beginning to work on Probability concepts. The assessment for the unit will be at the end of the week, probably on Friday afternoon. Then we will move into Geometry.
This week in Social Studies and next week in Science
We will conclude our introduction to American History this week. Topics will include Slavery in the Colonies, the Triangle Trade, and Westward Movement.
Following the Social Studies, we will return to Science for our Geology Rocks unit. Students will start out by learning about the structure of the Earth.
